The Competition Authority (AdC) approved the purchase of The Fork by American Express, issuing a decision of non-opposition to the concentration operation. The decision was made after analysis of the impact of the transaction on the relevant markets.
The regulatory authority considered that the operation is not likely to create significant obstacles to effective competition in the national market or a substantial part of it. This assessment allowed concluding that the transaction does not raise competition concerns in Portugal.
The Fork is a restaurant reservation platform, while American Express is a multinational financial services company. The acquisition represents a strategic move by American Express to strengthen its presence in the restaurant and lifestyle sector.
