The Guarda Nacional Republicana arrested eight men and seized 150 jerrycans of fuel in the municipality of Loulé, in the Algarve. The operation was carried out after GNR military personnel detected suspicious movements linked to logistical support for a vessel.
The eight suspects were intercepted near a goods vehicle, where all the seized fuel was found. The GNR did not reveal further details about the identity of those arrested or about the vessel that was being refueled.
This action falls within the GNR's powers in combating fuel trafficking, an illegal activity that represents significant risks to public safety and the environment. The seized fuel was confiscated by the authorities.
