The Minister of the Environment, Maria da Graça Carvalho, sent a letter to ERSE (Energy Services Regulatory Entity) asking that this regulatory entity have greater control over fuel companies. The letter comes in a context of concern about the lack of transparency in the fuel market.
In the communication sent to ERSE, Maria da Graça Carvalho requested that the regulatory entity have a "hand" in the fuel companies, meaning that it exercise tighter supervision over the activity of these companies in the Portuguese market.
ERSE highlighted the need to implement more transparency in the sector, arguing that the public should be informed about fuel price formation. This position reflects growing concern about how prices are determined and communicated to consumers.
The Regulatory Entity also asked the government for powers to punish those who violate fuel sector legislation. In other words, ERSE wants the power to impose sanctions on fuel companies that do not comply with the established rules, thereby strengthening its capacity for market supervision and regulation.
