In Bari, a city on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni celebrated this Friday her record tenure in office since the end of World War II. The event was marked by applause from supporters and also by protests in the streets of the city.
Meloni completed 1,413 days at the helm of the Italian government, surpassing Silvio Berlusconi's second term, which lasted from 2001 to 2005. With this, her government became the longest-serving in Italy in the post-war period.
The premier defined "stability" as "our first great reform" and stated that Italy "has ceased to be Europe's hot topic." She added that the most stable government is not necessarily the most capable, but rather the one that had more time to be evaluated, and that this judgment comes from the Italians who are still by her side.
