EU to make last-minute decision on banning oil and gas drilling in the Arctic

The European Commission is about to reveal its revised strategy for the Arctic, which will include a decision on the exploration of new oil and gas wells in the Far North. The central question is whether Brussels will maintain or revoke its 2021 position on this matter.

The company Editave Multimédia, owner of Fama Rádio, Famatv and the digital newspaper Opinião Pública, filed a formal complaint with ERC against the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, accusing the council of designing a 210 thousand euro public tender for the acquisition of advertising broadcasting services with criteria that favor one local radio operator to the detriment of another. The company claims that the requirement of a printed newspaper as an eliminatory criterion in the audiovisual lot creates a "de facto monopoly," excluding Fama Rádio and Famatv, which have had no printed edition for about six months. Editave speaks of a "two-step market blockade": first, the council allegedly created a printed municipal bulletin that harmed the commercial viability of independent newspapers, and then uses this absence as a legal pretext to exclude those media from the tender. The company asked ERC for urgent intervention and requested that the tender jury change the rules, invoking violation of principles of the Public Procurement Code, including technological neutrality.

Carneiro again accuses Government of "making money" from fuel price increases

The PS leader, José Luís Carneiro, again accused the Government of "making money" from fuel price increases, revealing that he submitted to Parliament a proposal to reduce VAT on fuels and essential foods — for the third time already, rejected by AD, IL and Chega. Carneiro stated that the Executive profits nine cents per liter of diesel and six cents per liter of gasoline, having accumulated 1,048 million euros in fuel taxes between 2024 and 2025, and an additional 1,070 million in VAT revenue due to inflation.
