The food basket monitored by the consumer defense organization DECO PROteste recorded an increase of 2.11 euros in one week, now costing 254.73 euros. This set of 63 food products is used as an indicator of the evolution of food prices in Portugal.
Since the beginning of the year, the same basket has become more expensive by 12.91 euros, representing a significant burden for Portuguese families. The upward trend in food prices thus remains consistent throughout 2024.
When compared to 2022 values, the total increase exceeds 67 euros, evidencing a continuous escalation of basic food costs. Inflation in the food sector has been a constant concern for consumers in Portugal.
DECO PROteste regularly monitors these prices as a way to inform consumers about the evolution of the cost of living and allow comparisons with previous periods.
