In Portugal, until August 31, this year is the sixth year with the most fires since records began. This position highlights the severity of the situation given the country's fire history.
In the Mediterranean basin, the scenario was different, with 2024 proving to be a much calmer year than 2025, suggesting an unequal distribution of fire impacts in the region.
However, some European countries faced unprecedented fires, burning in ways never seen before. This indicates that while some Mediterranean areas were less affected, other regions of Europe suffered particularly severe consequences.
