The Portuguese Government declared of public utility, with urgency, the servitude necessary for the installation of a new section of the primary fuel management network on Serra da Freita. The measure aims to stop large wildfires in the region.
The area covered by the intervention exceeds 72 hectares and is almost entirely located in the parish of Urrô, belonging to the municipality of Arouca, in the district of Aveiro.
This firebreak is part of the primary fuel management network, which consists of strategic areas of land where vegetation is managed to create barriers against the propagation of large-scale wildfires.
The information was reported by the online newspaper Discurso Direto, which announced the government decision intended to protect Serra da Freita against the risks of devastating wildfires.
