Bolieiro, the regional leader of the Azores, spoke in Horta, on the island of Faial, at a ceremony that marked the start of legislative power in the region in 1976, a date that symbolizes the beginning of Azorean autonomy.
The political leader defended that the autonomy of the Azores is built on "unity", conveying a message of cohesion among the various islands and political forces of the region.
In his speech, Bolieiro stated that the Azores can "give a special vocation to the future of Portugal and the European Union", highlighting the strategic role that the autonomous region can play in the broader European context.
