Rain will mark the weather conditions in the Azores this Friday, September 4th, with a worsening of conditions especially during the afternoon. The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts that the western group of the archipelago, comprising the islands of Flores and Corvo, will be the most affected region, with periods of very cloudy skies that will evolve to overcast skies, accompanied by rain especially from the afternoon onwards, turning to showers during the night.
In the western group, the wind will be from the south, moderate to fresh, between 20 and 40 km/h, with gusts that can reach 60 km/h, rotating to northwest from the evening onwards. The sea will be choppy, with west waves between one and two meters, increasing to two to three meters and temporarily turning to southwest. The sea water temperature should be around 24 degrees. In the central group, periods of very cloudy skies with some sunny intervals are expected, cloud cover increasing until the end of the day and periods of light rain, especially during the night.
In mainland Portugal, the scenario will be different. IPMA predicts partly cloudy skies in the early hours, but with an increase in cloud cover from mid-morning. There is a possibility of showers and thunderstorms in the interior of the North and Central regions from the afternoon onwards, as well as suspended dust and mist or fog in some areas of the western coastal strip. Minimum temperatures will have a slight rise, while maximum temperatures will drop. In Greater Lisbon and Greater Porto, an increase in cloud cover and possibility of mist or fog near the coast is forecast.
In the Azores, maximum temperatures will vary between 27 and 28 degrees, with Santa Cruz das Flores and Horta potentially reaching 28 degrees. Minimum temperatures will oscillate between 21 and 23 degrees. On the western coast of the mainland, the sea will have northwest waves of about one meter and water between 18 and 20 degrees, while on the southern coast, southeast waves of less than one meter and water temperature between 20 and 22 degrees are expected.
