In the midst of an unprecedented crisis at the Supreme Federal Court, the president of the Court, Minister Edson Fachin, participates in an event at the Palace of the Presidency this Friday alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The ceremony was scheduled by the government to sign into law a bill that creates funds for the Federal Justice.
The event occurs less than 24 hours after Lula publicly demanded that Fachin take action to ensure the "integrity and confidence" in the investigations of the Banco Master case. The attorney general of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, who was also cited by Lula in his demand, is among those present at the meeting.
The moment is marked by an intense internal crisis at the STF. The previous day, Minister Alexandre de Moraes presented a request for his colleague André Mendonça to be investigated for what he classified as "indications of crimes" in the conduct of investigations under his reporting duties, especially those related to the Master scandal.
