IBGE: only one in five app-based motorcycle riders contributes to Social Security

App-based work has been growing among motorcyclists in Brazil, but Social Security contributions by this group remain low. In 2025, only 19.4% of motorcycle riders working through digital platforms contributed to Social Security, according to a survey by IBGE conducted in partnership with Unicamp and the Ministry of Public Labor. Among motorcyclists who did not use apps, the proportion was 37.1%, almost double.

In total, less than one third (31%) of the 1.2 million motorcycle riders in the country contributed to Social Security. The decline in contributions among platform workers was 2.2 percentage points compared to 2024, while among non-"platformized" workers there was an increase of 0.8 points in the same period, indicating a setback in social protection for app-based motorcyclists.
