The case of the death of little donkey HeeHaw, shot inside his own pasture during a police operation in Rockmart, Georgia (USA), has gained a new chapter. Officer Trenton Garner, responsible for the fatal shot against the just 1-year-old animal, broke his silence and presented his official version of events in a report obtained by the "NY Post" newspaper, claiming he opened fire to defend himself after a failed attempt to use non-lethal force.
According to Garner's testimony, who has served with the Cedartown department since July 2023, the incident occurred around 12:45 AM on Sunday at the Elsberry Riding and Farm ranch, where teams with scent-tracking dogs were searching for a missing 12-year-old girl. Upon entering the property after tracking footprints, the officers startled animals with their movement.
In the report, the officer stated that the donkey advanced toward him, which led him to fire. The version contrasts with what witnesses told the American tabloid, who said the animal posed no threat whatsoever at the time it was shot.
