Schedule flexibility is the main reason for those working through digital platforms in Brazil, but this picture changes according to the type of activity. Among app-based drivers and delivery workers, the lack of work opportunities weighs more than the possibility of choosing their own hours. This is shown by the third edition of the IBGE survey on digital platform work, conducted in partnership with Unicamp and the Ministry of Labor, whose data were released on Friday.
Among drivers working through passenger transport apps, more than a third (33.4%) say they couldn't find another job. Flexibility appears as the main reason for 27.2% of these workers, while 24.4% point out that the income is higher than what they could earn in other available occupations and, therefore, decided to work through apps.
The result contrasts with the profile of taxi drivers, a group in which complementing income appears as one of the main reasons for working in the activity.
