The Municipal Services of Setúbal (SMS) awarded a set of environmental protection works worth over 1.6 million euros, covering interventions in the water network, sanitation and stormwater drainage in several areas of the municipality.
One of the main interventions is the requalification of the urban waste disposal system on Avenida Luísa Todi, with an investment of over 214 thousand euros, which includes the replacement of 30 containers and the placement of 16 additional ones. The Algeruz supply pipeline, which serves 40 percent of the city of Setúbal, will also be rehabilitated, in a problematic stretch of about 200 meters with numerous breakdowns, at a cost of nearly 250 thousand euros.
In Azeitão, two construction projects will be carried out, including a new water borehole in Pinhal de Negreiros to guarantee redundancy of the supply system. In São Gonçalo and Padre António Pires Brioso streets, the execution of supply, sanitation and stormwater drainage networks is planned, with an investment of over 845 thousand euros, and completion expected for next year.
Among the main benefits of the interventions are the reduction of water losses, the elimination of 23 septic tanks, the preparation of the stormwater network for winter and the prevention of flooding, contributing to environmental preservation and improvement of quality of life in the municipality of Setúbal.
