The dog Arka, from the Republican National Guard of Viseu, managed to locate a 78-year-old man who was missing. The elderly man was found alive, after a period in which authorities were trying to locate him.
The search operation that led to the reunion of the elderly man involved GNR military personnel, who coordinated the entire emergency response. In addition to the agents on the ground, drones were also used to assist in the searches and cover a wider search area.
The canine teams played a fundamental role in this intervention, with the dog Arka proving to be decisive in finding the elderly man. The combination of different resources allowed for a more efficient and successful search.
This case once again demonstrates the importance of service animals and surveillance technologies in the work of security forces in locating missing persons, especially when it comes to elderly people in vulnerable situations.
