The number of app-based workers in Brazil grew 36.8% in three years, rising from 1.3 million in 2022 to 1.8 million in 2025, an increase of approximately half a million people. In the last year alone, the growth was 9.1%. The survey considers only people who use digital service platforms as their sole or main work, excluding those who use apps as a side job or second employment.
The participation of "platformized" workers in the labor market has also been progressively increasing. In 2022, they represented 1.5% of employed workers in the private sector, rising to 1.9% in 2024.
The data are part of the third edition of the research "Work through Digital Platforms," conducted by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in partnership with the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) and the Labor Prosecutor's Office. The results were released this Friday.
