Lack of jobs weighs more than flexibility for drivers and app delivery workers, says IBGE

The IBGE released this Friday the third edition of a survey on work through digital platforms, conducted in partnership with Unicamp and the Labor Prosecutor's Office. The study reveals that, although schedule flexibility is the main reason for those who work through digital platforms in the country, this picture changes depending on the type of activity performed.

Among ride-hailing app drivers, more than one third (33.4%) state they couldn't find another job, while 27.2% point to flexibility as the main reason for choosing this modality. Another 24.4% say that the earnings obtained are higher than those of other available occupations.

The scenario is different among taxi drivers, for whom supplementing income appears as the main reason for working through an app. As for delivery workers, the lack of work opportunities also weighs more than the possibility of choosing their own schedules, as occurs with app drivers.
