Museum and monument workers in Portugal will now receive an availability complement of 60 euros for each day of normal work on public holidays. This amount was established through a decree-law that aims to financially compensate these professionals for their availability during days that are traditionally days of rest.
The diploma was published in the Official Gazette, thus becoming official and binding for the public administration. The formal publication establishes a measure that had already been announced by the government as a way of valuing professionals working in the areas of culture and heritage preservation.
The decree-law has retroactive effects from April 1st, meaning that the workers covered are entitled to receive this complement also for public holidays worked since that date. This retroactivity ensures that no professional is deprived of the benefit during the transition period until the publication of the document.
