The number of days with closed emergency departments in Portugal decreased by almost 70%, according to data from the Executive Direction of the National Health Service. This reduction represents a significant improvement in access to emergency services in the country.
The decrease in closures was particularly significant in Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency departments, as well as in Pediatrics. These areas had been among the most affected by closures in previous periods.
The data supporting this analysis comes from the Executive Direction of the NHS, the body responsible for managing and monitoring the Portuguese public health system.
This reduction of almost 70% in days of closed emergency departments comes in a context of government efforts to reinforce NHS capacity and ensure greater population access to urgent healthcare.
