The city of Krasnoyarsk, in Russia, entered lockdown after two fatal bear attacks that resulted in the death of two elderly women who were picking mushrooms in a forest in the region. Galina Teterina, 73 years old, and Zoya G., 67 years old, were attacked and killed a few hours apart by the same predator. The mutilated bodies of the victims were found by emergency teams buried in "dens" just 4.8 meters apart from each other.
The main suspicion is that the animal attacked Zoya first and remained near the site. When Galina arrived at the location moments later, she ended up being surprised by the predator. A local resident explained that very likely the predator was nearby and, when Galina accidentally approached the site, it attacked her too. The resident stated that Galina may have seen Zoya's body or belongings in the forest before being attacked.
Due to the severity of the situation and the growing number of animal sightings within urban areas, local authorities decided to impose a lockdown in the region to protect residents while they work to locate and contain the bear responsible for the attacks.
