Man on the run arrested by PSP to serve preventive detention

The PSP arrested this Thursday, in Vila Real, a man who was on the run, to serve the preventive detention measure. The arrest was carried out at 2:25 PM by officers from the Vila Real police station, during a targeted patrol action in the city.

The officers recognized the suspect on the street and proceeded with his immediate interception. Against this man there was an arrest warrant issued by the competent judicial authority for execution of the preventive detention measure.

The detained person has criminal records for the crimes of drug trafficking and physical assault. He was on the run after being ordered to serve effective prison time.

After the formalization of legal procedures, the man was taken and delivered to the Vila Real Prison.

Since Sunday (8/30), at least three people were attacked in less than 48 hours in the Centerra Park area. Security cameras recorded the moment the animal lunged at a driver who was getting out of a moving van. Witnesses believe the creature could be a gray fox or a fisher cat, but police have not yet managed to capture it to identify the species. The main suspicion of authorities is that the animal is contaminated with the rabies virus, and the population has been advised to remain alert to their surroundings.
