Antonio Balas is currently a colonel of the Civil Guard and head of the Economic and Anti-Corruption Investigation Department of the Central Operational Unit (UCO). His work proved fundamental in investigating the alleged corruption within the PSOE's circle.
Balas's name became public when a recording was released in which Leire Díez, known as the Socialists' "plumber," requested data to harm Balas and simultaneously sabotage the judicial investigations.
Given this situation, the UCO was forced to implement a personal protection detail for two of the agents considered key in the investigation of Leire Díez's network, with Antonio Balas being one of them.
