The Autoridade de Segurança Alimentar e Económica (ASAE) carried out on September 2 a fiscalization operation in the Algarve, together with the Portuguese Navy and the National Maritime Authority. The operation took place at sea and aimed to inspect professional fishing vessels.
Nine fishing vessels were inspected during this joint operation. The objective was to verify compliance with legal requirements by fishing sector operators.
As a result of the fiscalization, ASAE initiated two misdemeanor proceedings. The violations are related to the lack of hygiene requirements by the inspected vessels.
This operation falls within ASAE's competencies of fiscalization and prevention of violations in the area of food and economic safety, with the support of maritime authorities to ensure compliance with applicable legislation in the fishing sector.
