The Attorney General, Amadeu Guerra, confirmed that the Public Prosecutor's Office inquiry into the alleged invasion and theft in the office of the Chega leader, André Ventura, at the Assembly of the Republic, is running with urgent character. The case is being investigated by the Regional Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of Lisbon, assisted by the Judicial Police.
On July 30, the Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed the opening of the inquiry, which originated from a post by André Ventura on social media on July 28, where the Chega leader stated that his office in parliament had been invaded and ransacked. According to Ventura, the office was not locked.
Ventura later indicated that documents related to the prime minister and to an inquiry commission into Luís Neves's tenure as director of the PJ, which the party proposed to establish, had disappeared. The Judicial Police carried out procedures at the scene through the National Counter-Terrorism Unit and asked Ventura for images from the office prior to the incident, as well as information on whether missing pen drives had been connected to any computer.
The president of Chega also revealed that other deputies, such as former PSD deputy Duarte Pacheco, reported similar theft situations in their offices. Ventura argued that both the party and the Assembly of the Republic should strengthen security measures, explaining that his office was open to facilitate circulation, following parliamentary tradition.
