The Municipality of Valença signed on Thursday a cooperation protocol with the National Republican Guard for the implementation of a videovigilance system in several locations throughout the municipality. A date for the installation of the equipment has not yet been defined, but the local authority has already identified more than a dozen locations where cameras may be placed.
According to the Mayor, José Manuel Carpinteira, the cameras will be installed essentially at the main entrances to the city and in strategic areas with higher traffic, including Rotunda da Trapicheira, Avenida São Teotónio, the Transport Centre, the Railway Station, the school and sports zone and the Centenary Bridge.
Valença already has videovigilance in the Fortress area, a system that was activated in May 2023. The new project now provides for expansion outside the walls, covering points considered strategic by the local authority.
The mayor highlighted that the videovigilance system will serve as an instrument to support the protection of people and property, the identification of risk situations and the improvement of response conditions in Civil Protection matters.
