Viseu City Council announced the opening of the tender for the awarding of refurbishment works at three educational establishments in the municipality, with a total investment of approximately two million euros. The mayor, João Azevedo, stated that this investment represents the start of the new school year in the municipality and aims to improve, rehabilitate, and modernize schools to benefit students, teachers, and staff.
The interventions will be carried out at the Rolando de Oliveira Basic School in Abraveses, with a cost of 807 thousand euros, at the Rio de Loba Kindergarten, with 409 thousand euros, and at the Aquilino Ribeiro Basic School and Kindergarten in Viseu, with a value of 673 thousand euros.
This investment joins other works already carried out at various schools in the municipality, including the basic schools of Pascoal, Avenida, Povolide, São João de Lourosa, João de Barros, and Portela. In total, the council refers to investments in the order of 15 million euros in rehabilitation, expansion, and construction of school facilities.
The vice-mayor, Adelino Azevedo Pinto, responsible for the Education portfolio, explained that the interventions resulted from a visit by the municipal executive to all school centers in the municipality, which allowed identifying needs and concerns at the different establishments. The new school year in Viseu has approximately 13 thousand students, and the councilors will visit the primary schools to deliver a school kit to each student.
