Rain and thunderstorms heading to Portugal: these regions are in the 'sights' of bad weather today

The first weekend of September could bring instability to Portugal. According to the forecast from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), on Saturday, September 5, there will be showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon, mainly in the inland areas of the North and Centre regions. The sky will start partly cloudy or clear across most of the mainland, although periods of heavy cloudiness are expected along the western coastal strip until mid-morning.

In addition to the possibility of rain and thunderstorms, IPMA forecasts dust in suspension during Saturday. Wind will generally blow lightly from the west quadrant, becoming temporarily moderate, between 20 and 30 km/h, from the north or northwest on the western coastal strip. On the highlands, the south quadrant will temporarily predominate. Fog or mist may also form during the morning in some locations along the western coastal strip.

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly in the North and Centre regions, while in the Alentejo a small rise in maximum temperature is anticipated. However, rain is not expected to affect the entire mainland territory in a widespread manner, with dry weather persisting in most of the country.

In the Azores, rain will be more widespread. In the Western Group, the sky will be very cloudy with periods of rain during the early morning, gradually clearing to showers. In the Central Group, generally very cloudy skies are forecast, with periods of rain clearing to showers. In the Eastern Group, the sky will remain generally very cloudy with periods of light rain or drizzle.
