The City of Rio de Janeiro will expand the number of intelligent super-cameras to more than 6,500 across the city by the end of the year. The expansion is part of the new phase of the Center for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Technology in Support of Public Security (Civitas). The highest concentration of new installations will be in the North Zone, starting with the neighborhoods of Méier and Madureira. The definition of locations considers technical criteria and the analysis of criminal hotspots of different types.
These neighborhoods face significant problems with vehicle and cell phone thefts and robberies, often committed using motorcycles or cars. The region already has surveillance, but will have a significant increase in the number of monitoring cameras.
Civitas conducts an electronic fence that uses radars and artificial intelligence to predict the movement of criminal gangs. The system analyzes criminal patterns to identify critical areas and optimize the placement of security equipment.
