The Pilgrimage to the Lord of Miracles returns on October 8, Thursday, after three years of interruption. This year, the walk once again connects Funchal to Machico along a route of approximately 27 kilometres, with departure scheduled for 8:00 AM from the Gardens of Campo da Barca, in Funchal. The motto of the initiative is "Faith, hope and gratitude," aiming to revive a tradition of faith that annually gathered many pilgrims.
The organization is led by Paula Garcia, who explained that the decision to resume the pilgrimage came after several requests received in this regard. The organizer stated that the decision was thoughtful and came in response to the requests she has been receiving.
To ensure the safety of participants, the organization has confirmed the presence of an ambulance and a support vehicle that will distribute water along the route. Participants are also advised to bring a white t-shirt to create a common image during the walk. Registrations are open until September 30 and can be made through the number 965 845 426.
The pilgrimage will culminate in Machico with a eucharistic celebration presided over by the bishop of Funchal, D. Nuno Brás. In the evening, the traditional procession of the Lord of Miracles will take place, illuminated by torches and with the participation of hundreds of faithful from Machico and various towns on the island.
