PS MP says Government should not 'politically appropriate' the Eastern Variant of Évora

The Eastern Variant of Évora on IP2 was inaugurated, opening a political dispute over the origin of the investment. Socialist deputy Luís Dias, elected for the district of Évora, considers the opening of the new road a "good news", but argues that the current Government should not "politically appropriate" a work that, according to him, was decided, programmed and financed under the Recovery and Resilience Plan during previous PS Governments.

The Eastern Variant of Évora, which connects the Évora Nascente Node of the A6 to EN18, is 12.8 kilometers long, has an motorway profile and represents an investment of 54.9 million euros, financed through the PRR. The new infrastructure allows creating an alternative to traffic passing through the interior of the city of Évora, improving circulation conditions and road safety.

Luís Dias extends the same political position to road investments carried out on IP8 and opened to traffic this week, including the sections between Ferreira do Alentejo and Beja, between Santa Margarida do Sado and Ferreira do Alentejo, the Variant at Figueira de Cavaleiros and the duplication of IP8 between Relvas Verdes and Roncão. According to the deputy, these investments represent tens of millions of euros applied in the Alentejo road network and result from decisions previously made under the public investment policy and the PRR.

The socialist parliamentarian concludes that "the Socialist Party is proud of the investment legacy it left in Alentejo" and that the PRR allowed advancing with investments that for decades were postponed. He also argues that Alentejo "needs a consistent, continued and ambitious policy" in terms of infrastructure and that the Government should continue to execute the investments it found and not let those still to be completed fall through.
