Editora IMEPH begins this Friday, September 4, a three-day program at the "Cordel and Repente Space," integrated into the 28th International Book Fair of São Paulo. The coordination and curation of the space is in the hands of Lucinda Marques, president-director of the publisher, who assumes this role for the fifth time. The event takes place in the Anhambari District, in São Paulo, between September 4 and 13, operating from 9am to 10pm on weekdays and from 10am to 10pm on weekends. The space also features the "Literary Carriage," a mobile IMEPH project that includes storytelling, workshops, and cultural presentations dedicated to cordel literature.
The three-day program brings together authors, cordel poets, repentistas, musicians, educators, and representatives of Brazilian popular literature. On the first day, highlights include the opening ceremony conducted by Lucinda Marques, followed by a pocket show with Chambinho do Acordeon, cordel recitations, and several launch sessions, including "70 Years Grande Sertão: Veredas," by João Gomes Sá. Throughout the afternoon and evening, viola repente performances and folk singing, pocket shows, and launches of works on pedagogy, education, and neurodiversity are scheduled.
On Saturday, September 5, Ariano Suassuna occupies a central part of the program, with a book launch dedicated to the writer by Jô Oliveira at 10am and a conversation at 4pm between Bráulio Tavares and Antonio Nóbrega about "Popular poetry in Brazilian literature: Ariano Suassuna and Guimarães Rosa." Sunday, September 6, includes launches aimed at children, inclusion, and reader development, closing at 6pm with the show-lecture "On the Trail of Master Ariano Suassuna," conducted by João Suassuna, and a pocket show by Chico Pessoa at 7pm.
For Lucinda Marques, the "Cordel and Repente Space" serves as "a meeting point between literature, popular culture, and the publishing market." The director has advocated for the need to expand the circulation of authors and artists linked to cordel and Northeastern cultural manifestations within one of the main book events in Brazil. IMEPH, based in Ceará, develops educational projects, publishes textbooks and literary books, and maintains an editorial line dedicated to reader development and the valorization of local cultures.
