Government makes ten million euros available for fire damage in Valpaços and Vouzela

Now3 September 2026 at 13:42

The Government made ten million euros available to address the damage caused by rural fires that affected the municipalities of Valpaços and Vouzela. This funding comes as a response to the devastating consequences of the wildfires that struck these regions.

The order was signed by the Minister of Agriculture and the Sea, José Manuel Fernandes, who formalized the recognition of these fires as a natural catastrophe. This classification allows the activation of extraordinary support mechanisms for the affected populations.

The rural fires hit several parishes in the Centro and Norte regions of mainland Portugal with particular severity. The authorities identified Valpaços, in the Vila Real district, and Vouzela, in the Viseu district, as the municipalities most severely affected by these fire episodes.
