The United Nations General Assembly approved the merger of two training agencies of the organization: the UNSSC (the United Nations System Staff College) and UNITAR (the United Nations Institute for Training and Research).
The merger is part of the reform program called UN80, proposed by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. The objective of this reform is to modernize and make the organization's structure more efficient.
With the approval of the merger, a significant reduction in operational costs is expected. The plan includes 15% cuts in expenses and a decrease of up to 20% in the workforce of the two agencies that will be unified.
