The American contemporary dance company MOMIX is on tour in Brazil with the show BOTANICA, created in 2009 by director and choreographer Moses Pendleton. The tour began in Rio de Janeiro, at Theatro Municipal, from September 22 to 25, and will continue to other cities, including Belo Horizonte (Teatro SESIMINAS, September 30), São Paulo (Teatro Bradesco, from October 2 to 4), Curitiba (Teatro Positivo, October 6) and Porto Alegre (Teatro Bourbon Country, October 8).
BOTANICA transforms the stage into an ecosystem where bodies of dancer-acrobats, lights, costumes, scenic objects, projections and giant puppets combine to represent plants, animals and imaginary creatures. The peculiar costumes and giant puppets were created by Michael Curry. The show narrates a journey through the transformations of life on Earth, with performers interpreting different real or fictional species.
The presentation is a production of the Ministry of Culture and Bradesco Seguros. MOMIX is recognized as one of the most important contemporary dance companies of today, with works that frequently explore the fusion between human movement, technology and natural elements.
