President Lula met with ministers and campaign coordinators to define a strategy regarding the crisis involving Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, after the revelation of 52 messages exchanged with businessman Daniel Vorcaro. The meeting took place at the Palácio do Planalto and was attended by ministers Sidônio Palmeira, from the Communication Secretariat, Guilherme Boulos, from the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Wellington César, from Justice, and Attorney General Jorge Messias.
The government's decision is to treat the case as an exclusive crisis of the Judiciary branch, in an attempt to shield the Executive and protect Lula's reelection bid. Behind the scenes, there is a concern that the crisis may splash onto the presidential campaign due to the closeness between Lula and Moraes.
The ministers reached the conclusion that no one is above the law and that all those involved must account to society. This will be the guidance relayed to the government's political allies. The governing coalition has already begun adopting the same defensive tone.
