Antonella Barba, a former "American Idol" contestant who gained prominence in the sixth season of the show in 2007 when she reached the group of 16 finalists, was arrested on charges of shoplifting at a Target store in New Jersey. The singer, 39 years old and from East Orange, stole items valued at approximately $200 (about R$1,000) from the chain's location on August 10.
Police were called at around 3:19 PM, after reports that Antonella had hidden products in a bag while entering and exiting a fitting room and the store's bathroom. After leaving the bathroom, she immediately left the establishment.
Police officers approached her outside the store and found, in the bag she was carrying, the items allegedly stolen. Despite being caught in the act, Antonella pleaded not guilty in court. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 18.
