More than 70 people, including a baby, died in a shipwreck while trying to cross the Atlantic heading to the Canary Islands. The victims were traveling on a small boat that departed from the Gambia with 128 people on board.

Information about the incident was confirmed by Spanish authorities and a non-governmental organization, which followed the case and provided details about the tragedy.

The boat, which was carrying a large number of migrants, sank during the sea crossing, resulting in the deaths of dozens of people. The presence of a baby among the victims highlights the vulnerability of people who risk these dangerous journeys.

The Canary Islands are frequently used as a migration route for people trying to reach Europe from the west African coast, a journey known for being extremely dangerous and one that has resulted in numerous deaths over the years.
