The São Paulo Civil Police conducts this Thursday morning the second phase of Operation Avaritia, which investigates fraud in obtaining financing from Desenvolve SP during the pandemic. About 80 police officers carry out 22 search warrants in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The operation is conducted by the Specialized Center for Combating Organized Crime and Money Laundering, by Deic and by Deinter-2. The police officers seek documents, electronic equipment and other elements that may help identify beneficiaries of the resources and trace the assets of those under investigation.
The investigation began in January 2022, after the Ombudsman of Desenvolve SP received an anonymous complaint about a suspicious credit operation. The agency itself identified other similar cases and took the information to the Public Ministry.
According to the investigations, the criminal group was structured in Campinas and used at least three front companies and false financial statements to obtain the public financing.
