Mirandela has now joined the Climate Shelters Network — Stay Cool, by Turismo de Portugal, becoming the first municipality in the Terra de Trás-os-Montes region to adhere to this initiative.
The network covers five spaces in the municipality: the Arts Station, the Ecoteca, Ribeira de Carvalhais Park, Império Park, and the Pine Grove next to Escola Secundária Luciano Cordeiro.
Climate shelters are designed to provide shade, coolness and protection during periods of extreme heat, with particular relevance for the groups most vulnerable to high temperatures.
Membership allows the Municipality to prepare applications for the qualification of these spaces, namely with reinforcement of shade zones and vegetation, water fountains, rest areas, accessibility and signage.
