Methadone Will Now Be Administered at USISM

The Regional Government of the Azores announced that methadone will now be administered at the Island Health Unit of São Miguel, changing the model of care delivery for opioid substitution treatments on that island.

This change represents the progressive integration of opioid substitution treatments into the Regional Health Service, no longer being provided through the previous model that was in effect until now.

The implementation of this new approach will be done in coordination with the Island Health Unit of São Miguel, ensuring coordination between the different health services involved in providing this care.

The process also has the collaboration of the Regional Directorate for Prevention and Combat of Addictions, which participated in this reorganization of opioid addiction treatment services in the region.
