A magnitude 5 earthquake struck the Tibet region, in China, on Thursday (3), about a week after the flood that left more than a thousand dead on the border between Nepal and Tibet. The tremor had a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey, and the epicenter was in Xizang, about 100 kilometers from the border of India with Nepal. There is still no information about victims or possible damage caused by the earthquake.
The number of dead in Nepal due to flooding rose to 1,200, according to the National Authority for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management of the country. More than 4,700 people remain missing. Nearly a thousand power plant workers remain missing underground, buried after the floodwaters receded, according to the Army.
The catastrophe in the Himalayan region began after the collapse of a glacier, which launched a large amount of ice, rocks, mud and debris onto the rivers of the region, causing the devastating floods.
