The municipality of Maputo intends to update the Urban Structure Plan of the Municipality of Maputo, which was approved in 2008, that is, 18 years ago. The information was transmitted by the Municipal Council, which is leading this review initiative.
The main objective of this update is to respond to the transformations that the Mozambican capital has experienced over the past two decades. These changes include urban growth, development of new residential and commercial areas, as well as changes in the city's infrastructure needs.
The 2008 plan, which is about to be replaced, regulated until now the spatial organization and urban development of Maputo. Its review comes in a context where the city has faced various demographic, economic, and environmental changes that were not foreseen in the original document.
With this update, the municipal authorities intend to ensure that the new plan reflects the current reality of Maputo and prepares the city for future land-use planning challenges, including population growth management and the need for modern infrastructure.
