The Federal Justice in the Federal District granted a ten-day deadline for the Discord platform to present a conciliation proposal in an action filed by the federal government that calls for the implementation of measures to protect women, children, and adolescents on the internet. The deadline was requested by the platform itself during the first hearing of the case.
The hearing featured representatives from the Attorney General's Office and the Federal Public Ministry. Discord intends to present a protocol to receive notifications about sextortion cases on the platform, a detection and moderation mechanism for content regarding abuse and cruelty toward animals, as well as measures to preserve user data for potential requisition by investigations.
Before filing the action in court, the federal government attempted to reach an out-of-court settlement with the platform so that the failures would be corrected. The AGU reported that the measures previously presented by Discord were considered insufficient, which led to the decision to file the legal action.
