GNR DETECTS MORE THAN 8,000 DRIVERS FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL

The Republican National Guard detained 8,438 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol between January and July this year, with 8,856 crimes related to this type of road offense recorded in the same period. The weekly average of detentions is around 280.

The intercepted drivers had a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.20 grams per liter, the value from which driving is considered a crime. The majority of detentions involved drivers between 31 and 64 years old, with emphasis on the 51 to 64 age group, which accounted for 2,450 cases.

The risk associated with driving under the influence of alcohol increases mainly during weekends and between midnight and six in the morning. The GNR reinforces the appeal for those who consume alcoholic beverages not to drive and to opt for safe transportation alternatives.
