Neurosurgeon and main suspect in Maradona's death says he "didn't see warning signs" in the patient

Neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, the main suspect in Diego Maradona's death, stated that he "didn't see warning signs" in the patient during the period he accompanied him. Luque also acknowledged feeling "frustrated" for "not knowing how to deal with an alcoholic patient", admitting difficulties in approaching the patient.

Maradona died in November 2020, aged 60, at a residence in Argentina. The investigation into the circumstances of his death led to searches at the player's home and at Luque's office, who was Maradona's personal neurosurgeon.

The Argentine Public Ministry is investigating whether there was medical negligence in caring for the former footballer. Luque denies any responsibility and maintains he did everything within his power to help Maradona.

The doctor's statements arise in the context of an investigation process that seeks to clarify the exact causes of Maradona's death and any potential responsibility of health professionals in caring for the Argentine football icon.
