Rui L. Reis will be reconducted as president of the Institute of Research on Biomaterials, Biodegradable and Biomimetic (I3Bs) of the University of Minho. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 AM, in the I3Bs auditorium located at Avepark, in Barco, Guimarães, and will count with the presence of the rector of the University of Minho, Pedro Arezes. In the new term, he will have as vice-presidents professor Natália Alves and researchers Joaquim Miguel Oliveira and Vítor Correlo.
Rui L. Reis, native of Porto and 59 years old, earned his PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Minho. Throughout his career, he served as vice-rector of the minhota academy and founded, 27 years ago, the 3B's research group, one of the most recognized national scientific structures in the field of biomaterials and regenerative medicine. Currently, he is director of the associated laboratory ICVS/3B's and CEO of the European Institute of Excellence in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (EXPERTISSUES).
Rui L. Reis is considered the most cited scientist based in Portugal worldwide, accumulating more than 85 thousand citations on the ISI Web of Science platform. He is also co-author of more than 2,030 scientific publications and more than 130 patents, work that contributed to the creation of several technology-based companies.
