The Regional Government of the Azores estimated that 1 million cubic meters of bagacina have been removed from Mata das Feiticeiras, located in the municipality of Lagoa, on the island of São Miguel. This material is being used in public works in the Region.
The site from which the material is being extracted is precisely the one where the new Prison Establishment of Ponta Delgada is planned to be built. The use of bagacina removed from this land comes as part of the utilization of available resources in the area designated for the project.
Mata das Feiticeiras thus serves as a source of raw material for various public contracts in the Azores, allowing the optimization of natural resources available on the very land where the construction of the prison establishment will take place.
