The Spanish Academy of Cinema preselected three films to represent Spain in the race for the Oscar Awards. The chosen films were "El ser querido" by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, "Los domingos" by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and "La bola negra" by Los Javis. The announcement was made by Miriam Garlo, who made history by becoming the first deaf actress to win a Goya Award.
The institution is directed by Fernando Méndez-Leite and confirmed that the final decision on which of these three films will represent Spain will be announced on September 16. The selected film will replace "Sirât" by Oliver Laxe, which represented Spain in the previous edition of the Oscars.
The chosen film will still have to pass Hollywood's screening in order to make it to the 99th edition of the Oscar Awards. The awards ceremony is scheduled for March 14, 2027 and will take place at the famous Dolby Theatre.
