The Ministry of Agriculture and Sea declared public utility, with urgency, of land in several parishes of the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez and Monção, in Alto Minho. The measure aims at the creation of fuel management strips, essential for the prevention and combat of fires in the region.
An order related to this declaration was published yesterday in the Official Gazette, having been consulted by the Portuguese news agency. The document establishes that the Government declares the urgent public utility of the identified land for this purpose.
This decision is part of the context of rural fire prevention policies, particularly relevant for the Alto Minho region, which has been historically affected by large-scale forest fires. Fuel management strips function as barriers that limit the spread of fire.
The public utility declaration allows the State to proceed with the expropriation or temporary use of the necessary land for the implementation of these strips, overcoming any legal or administrative obstacles that could delay the prevention works.
